Reaching Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons with the true gospel of Jesus Christ

Welcome to our Mailroom!

As questions and comments roll in we find some information useful to share with others.  Then again, "useful" is somewhat subjective.

We try to respond to everyone who includes their email address and we don't post any personal information to the public EVER.  What you see below are actual emails and with our response in blue type.  There are cases where the reply only makes sense if we type right into the body of the received email, so forgive us.  Also, if any of our Jr. High English teachers are out there - we're just "cut-n-pasting"!  You see it the way we got it!  Anyway, here's a sampling so that you all can share in the "love".

6/27/08 Idiots!

You know, I guess we'd rather have that than some mindless rant where JW's and Mormons  that don't know anything about our material trash it.  We'll take it.
6/1/08 What exactly are you trying to accomplish from your website? I know some mormons and they are great people why can't you leave it at that. I am not mormon but respect them and there beliefs. Who cares if some people don't find joe smiths story to be true. There teachings still encourage people to be christlike, doing good things and loving one another. What are you trying to save people from? (Hell.) Why not focus your efforts on helping people who don't believe in Christ at all rather then  hating or bashing anothers faith? Thanks {Mike}
Thank you so much for visiting our website and for asking your question.

Mike, what we are trying to accomplish is to bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.  We agree that pretty much every Mormon we've met (like your experience) is a wonderful, wonderful person .  The problem is that the Mormon church is not leading people to be truly "Christlike".  They are teaching people that they can become gods...Christ never taught that - Satan did (Genesis 3).  They are teaching people that salvation comes through works - Christ never taught that - the world does.  They are teaching that one must have the approval of Joseph Smith in order to get into heaven - Jesus never taught that - Jesus said HE was THE (ONLY) WAY and that no one comes to the Father BUT THROUGH HIM.

These are just three of the teachings on essential issues that are in direct-conflict with what Christ taught.  If you'd like more, I'd be happy to share them with you.  As you can see, however, as wonderful as they are, they are lost and dying if they believe the things the Mormon church teaches, so it is important to help.

Let me put it this way: say you were on the roof of a skyscraper and you had a Mormon (or other wonderful person) with you.  Say also that that person was blindfolded and walking toward the edge of the building.  Maybe they tell you that they believe walking into the wind will lead them to safety or that walking toward the warmth of the sun will lead them to safety - whatever it is.  Would you stand idly by and let them walk off the edge because they're a wonderful person who isn't hurting anyone and they should be able to just believe whatever they want?  Or would you try to remove the blindfold and show them the dangers of following what they believe?  What is the most Christlike thing to do in that situation?

I hope that answers your question.
5/31/08 I've been learning a little about the mormon religion and find it very interesting, they all seem to be very nice and there values and beliefs are very good. (Absolutely true!)
I've often wondered why there so many churches in the world today with such different teachings. Do you believe there is a true church with all of god's truth today on earth?  Thank you for your time.

Great question!

Thank you so much for visiting our website and for asking your question about whether or not we believe there is one "true church".

Your question is a little deeper than you may realize.  We believe that any church grounded in what the Bible clearly teaches is, by definition, true.  When it comes to non-essential issues that the Bible is not so clear about (end times, the method of baptism, the frequency of taking the Lord's Supper, etc.) we believe that as long as the church can support their position from the 66 books of the Bible then that practice is VALID.  That is traditionally where the Christian church has divided into denominations.  Bear in mind that Christian denominations are UNIFIED in their beliefs on the essential issues (nature of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and salvation by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone), where they have divided in is their worship styles and distinct views on non-essential issues.

Practically speaking, we believe that the people constituting the Christian denominations subscribing to the issues the Bible describes as essential to salvation (nature of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and salvation by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone) are together the true church.

I hope that answers your question.
5/3/08 (response to the Jesus: Obeisance or Worship article)
Excellent.  I am going to read it over and over until I know it , so when the JW come to my door, I will have concrete, Biblical ammunition.
Thank you, thank you.  (Fran)

That's GREAT, Fran!  Use it as you wish - that is precisely why it is there!  We're glad you found it useful!

God bless and, GIVE 'EM HEAVEN!!!

4/22/08 You guys talk in circles.  You quote the bible saying all things were created by Jesus like that is something that JW's say is not true.  That indeed is true.  (Yes, we know it's true - Jesus did create all things according to Colossians 1:16)  Jesus was the only man or thing created directly by Jehovah (What?  The Bible does not say that Jesus was created.  Also, cross reference Genesis 1:1 with Colossians 1:16)  Therefore, all other  things and people were created by Jesus.  (WHOA!!!  The Bible does not say Jesus created all "other" things - it says ALL THINGS)  Put that in your mail room. (Heather)
I hope you all see the classic DOUBLETHINK illustrated here.  First, Heather says it is true that the Bible says all things were created by Jesus then goes on to change it by adding the word "other".  It is EITHER ALL THINGS or it is NOT ALL THINGS.  You can't believe both...unless you are a Jehovah's Witness.

4/18/08 Will you explain the theology of J.W. and of the MORMONS, there are many people who do not know who they are. Joseph S. profesied that there are people who live on the MOON , and after his death Bringham Young profesied that he received a revelation from his god that Peoples are not only on the MOON but on the SUN, there are many people who believe that we worship same God and same Jesus Christ. {Mike}
Well, Mike, you make great points - there is a TON of information that people don't know about Mormon theology and the leaders that developed that theology.  (Get ready for the shameless book plug) We've taken the time to explain and support with LDS documentation that theology in our Solving the Mormon Puzzle book... (told you)
4/8/08 You are satan's servants. This is how you make a leaving ? Do something more productive.
Satan's servant?  So much for that I Peter 3:15 principle, huh?  No, we don't make a "living" doing this, but we do have to pay for the materials...
3/24/08 I would be interested to know where you get your information concerning these two religions. Do you recieve correspondence  from someone currently in these religions or even someone who used to be? (Caitlyn)
To answer your question as to where we got the information regarding these religions: we researched the information ourselves.  We include photocopies of our sources so that any third party can verify that the citations are in their proper context.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you for your quick responce!
But have you ever seriously conversed with someone in authority in these religions debating the topics you cover, not including those who contact you? Ever arranged a meeting to make sure you get the facts right instead of relying upon personal interpretation of the subjects they broadcast? I would love to hear how you cover these religions in depth and reach your conclusions.
GREAT, GREAT QUESTIONS!  Seriously, most people who email from a contradictory perspective just launch into some unfounded personal attack.  We ALL appreciate your thoughtfulness and the sincere nature of your questions.  Now to answer:

I personally have spoken with three Elders in the Jehovah's Witness Organization about the questions we have.  I have also spoken to a Bishop in the Mormon Church and emailed both the Church and two BYU apologetic websites regarding the questions we have.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about "relying on personal interpretations on subjects they broadcast".  Words mean things and we take what each organization has written or said at face value.  If they have changes in positions we include those as well.  I'm not too sure if you have a specific issue in mind...?  I would be happy to answer any question you might have on how we've evaluated a teaching or claim for either organization.

Thank you again for writing.  I would love to answer any other questions you might have.
Thanks again! When I said "relying on personal interpretations" I was just asking to make sure you didn't just read their work and assume you knew the correct answer without asking them about it. Apparently you don't!
Thank you so much for being so polite about it. I might have more questions later.
See, we can all learn something from Caitlyn here!    If you have an intelligent, sincere question, we will take you seriously and answer your questions!  If you just write in an launch into unfounded attacks, then we're going to have fun with you!  So be nice.
3/17/08 PRAYER LIST ADDITION:  The creators of this site Great - we can use it!!
COMMENTS: That they need to know that they are a tool of Satan (gosh, that's not a very nice thing to say about people you don't even know...) to work to turn people who are searching for the true religion and know the true name of God- Jehovah.  That JW's only do what Jesus did - preach the good new of GODS kingdom as in Matthew states- that will be here on earth as it is in heaven.
JW's also do things Jesus' did not do!  Such as ignoring or twisting scriptures that don't support predetermined doctrine, preventing people from communicating with relatives who leave the church, and teaching polytheism!
2/18/08 fyou alllllllllll!
That is truly brilliant...and Christlike too!
2/16/08 Are you more fulfilled because you are engaged in negativism of other people's faith?  Do wonder that about Joseph Smith since he called all Christian denominations "abominations" and "corrupt" (Joseph Smith History 1:19)I find that when I concentrate on the wrong things that people do, it takes away my spirituality, therefore, the Holy Ghost withdraws from me.  Well, that sounds good (even enlightened), but is it Biblical?  No.  The reality is that Christ and the Apostles repeatedly corrected people.  That's the example we're following. No religion in this world is perfect and every prophet ever lived made mistakes, This is just not true.  First, had you actually looked at our stuff you'd notice that we don't criticize the Mormon prophets for being fallible, we criticize them for failing the BIBLICAL TEST FOR A TRUE PROPHET - Joseph predicted things in the name of God that failed to come to pass (violation of Deuteronomy 18:20-22) and Brigham led people toward other Gods (violation of Deuteronomy 13:5).  The Biblical prophets did not fail these tests - Joseph and Brigham did. so why would we allow ourselves to think that there is a religious organization out there that is completely truthful in all things.  Satan after all works 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Many times when I think that I am being directed by the Holy Spirit, the outcome tells me otherwise.  We are only human with frailities and guided by a heart that sometimes fail us!  By their fruits you shall know them!  This is one of the tests for a prophet.  The fruit of the prophet is his prophecy - which is what we evaluate Joseph Smith on.  Are your fruits any sweeter because you are engaged in educating your truths to us.  If the answer to that is, "Yes" then I ask you, who is directing you?  The Lord or Satan?  Everything that is edifying comes from God.  Things that serves only to confuse and doubt our beliefs cannot be from the Lord.  The Lord wants only love to come from our works.  It is not love to engage in negativism What is more loving than helping someone realize they are following a false prophet and a false system of doctrine?  What is more loving than allowing oneself to be an instrument in the hands of the Lord to lead them into a saving relationship with Him?  Isn't that what your missionaries do?

Most sincerely, Believer of Christ.

It's easy to throw an ad hominem attack at someone to convince yourself others are wrong, but evaluate the facts that we provide.  If you look at them honestly and stop worrying about whether or not we're "negative" then I think God will open your heart up to the truth.

2/2/08 Dear Defending Your Doorstep Ministries,
My name is Joseph, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I have recently returned home honorably from a full time mission for my church.  I stand as a witness to the divinity and reality of Jesus Christ, (Great - we agree, Christ is both Divine and real!)  I also stand as a witness that Joseph Smith Jr. is and was a prophet of the Most High God.  The revelations which fell from his lips and from the lips of prophets since down to Thomas S. Monson are indeed the word of the Lord and the mind of the Lord concerning His holy work in the latter days in which we live (what about these, were these prophecies from God?).   I hope you will read the remaining of my letter, I will explain how I have come to this knowledge.
I have read many times the Bible, and the Book of Mormon; all things therein both books lead me to believe that God is our loving Father, and that by the prayer of faith one may come to know God, life eternal is indeed to know God the Father and Jesus Christ whom He did send.  The beautiful scripture in James 1:5 states that if we shall ask God with a sincere heart, with real intent, He will manifest the truthfulness (or incorrectness) of what we ask.  This is so, correct?  No, I'm sorry, it is not correct.  James 1 talks about asking God for wisdom (Gr. sophia: the ability apply knowledge) to endure trials.  It is NOT ABOUT asking God to tell us what is right/wrong or true/false.  For example, James does not imply we can ask God to solve math problems for us,
but what we can ask God to do is to help us use the knowledge we've acquired to endure trials.  My friends, I have truly asked God, in the name of Jesus, to know for myself whether Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and whether Joseph Smith is His prophet. And it is by the power of the Holy Ghost, the Testator, that I have come to know that both men are whom they claim to be.  Well, that's just not the way we are to determine whether or not someone is a prophet of God.  The Bible (even Joseph Smith's translation) gives us clear tests we are to use when someone claims to be a prophet in Deuteronomy 13:5 and 18:20-22.  When we use those tests, Joseph fails.  As I served my mission I did not use tricks, or gimmicks to somehow fool people.  I promised them in the name of Jesus Christ that if they would read of the Book of Mormon, and ponder it's message in their hearts and ask God sincerely, it would be revealed to them as it was to me, and as it has been for millions of people, and as it was to them to whom I did make the promise.  Undoubtedly you were sincere, it's just not the correct way to make those determinations.  God warns us AGAINST believing spirits and what we "feel"...

1 John 4:1

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Genesis 8:21

(God speaking)…for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth…

 Proverbs 16:9

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

 Proverbs 19:3

The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth   against the LORD.

Why must so many persecute us for heeding the instructions of God?  No one is doing that - primarily because your NOT heeding the instructions of God!  If you were, you'd use HIS test for determining truth and you likely would not be a Mormon!  But we will obey the Lord, and stand firm in our faith of Christ togeather, and unified.  I again raise my voice in testimony that the Lord God has begun a most marvelous work and wonder.  The true gospel has been revealed from the heavens through the Lord’s ordained servants.  The Book of Mormon, despite the harsh criticism, is the word of the Lord.  And the Lord will prove to all that these, the words of the Book of Mormon, are His.  I would invite you with all the feeling of my heart (Genesis 8:21, Proverbs 16:9 and Proverbs 19:3) to consider these words, to pray to God in the name of His son, and humble yourselves to the dust before the Lord, and listen to His voice, as a child would submit to his loving Father.  I promise you, He will listen to you, and answer your prayers; He will guide you in all things if you will be humble and prayerful.  But if God has already spoken about how we are to determine truth, and we ignore it and use our own way, is He responsible for answering those prayers?  If we pray whether or not we can steal, will He answer, or are we putting God to the test?  Give place in your heart to this seed, and nurture it.  And when you feel the swaying of the Spirit in you, you will recognize that this seed does bear good fruit.  I must also warn that those who reject the many testimonies which God has laid before them run their own condemnation. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING BY IGNORING GOD'S WORD.  And He who turns his heart from the tender voice of the Lord towards the learning of man and all it's error and pride, finds himself short of the mercy and grace of Christ.  For it was Christ, in all, that did reach for them, and stretched his arm towards them all the day long.  My testimony is as you have read it, given to me by the Spirit of the All Mighty, independent of any other person (except the declarations of a prophet proven to be false by his own words).  I bear it to you in the name of the Lord and Savior of man, even Jesus Christ.
  Most sincerely,
      Joseph
I have included my e-mail address, and my name.  You may respond if you desire.  Feel free to ask any questions, and I will endeavor to address them to the extent of my knowledge.

Joseph, you truly do appear to be a wonderful and sincere young man.  We HAVE attempted to contact you several times, but you stopped writing back when we cited the above Bible verses.  We'd love to speak with you - if you'd like, please call us (248)756-2808 and we'll call you back so it's on our dime.  Or feel free to write us back.  May God lead you into a true, saving relationship with him through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

2/2/08 Why do you waste your time in tearing down a religion that is rapidly growing and covering the earth? Are you afraid that you will lose people or money?
Why do Mormons go door-to-door "tearing down" the Christian religion and trying to convert Christians into Mormonism?  Are THEY afraid they are going to lose people or money?
